Yep, Last week, late on Thurday night, I was down at Harry's Cafe de Wheels partaking of the house specialty - A "Tiger" - a meat pie piled high with potato mash, green pea mash and drowned in gravy. But how times have changed - the pie cart is not a cart any more - It is more like a small room that has had a really bad attempt at trying to make it look like an aluminium "trailer" (say that with a very heavy American accent!); the two female staff serving were speaking an undiscernable Eastern European language to each other between spooning potato pea mash and gravy and the greatest shock of all was the presence of a bar code scanning wand that was used to calculate the cost of my order. IS NOTHING sacred! Thankfully, there were still the really tatty and faded photographs of the retruning and departing servicemen and women from the 30's, 40's and 60's as well as lots of photos of personalities from the 70's - one look at the hair-styles will convince you they were from the 70's including a really nice shot of Laurie Oakes (renowned political journalist) enjoying a moment passed with a renowned labor party power broker - very nostalgic and still enjoyable. Dinner on Wednesday night at Sydney restaurant "Prime" in the basement of the old GPO was SOMETHING ELSE. I will definitely be writing soon about what I consider to be one of the BEST restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
