The story of the "Afghan girl" ...the young Afghani girl with the piercing green eyes whose face became an icon over the last few decades is widely known. She was nameless and the photographer who captured the image was beset with a mission to find the girl many years later. The search for the "Afghan girl" was the subject of a very compelling National Geographic TV show which is run on Optus cable from time-to-time.
On a completely different scale , I have a photograph in my collection (taken in the early 1970's) that shows a very pretty young girl in a very fetching purple "hot pants" suit complete with "bunny ears". I would very much like to identify and/or locate this young lady who was kind enough to allow me to photograph her sometime between 1971 and 1975. Here is the photo of said young lady. It was Easter in the early 1970's and she was participating in an Easter promotion at one of the service stations between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. I was driving to the Gold Coast from Brisbane with my brothers and when the young lady came to our car to give us an orchid, I could not resist my photographer's urge to snap a couple of shots. If anyone recognises this lady, please let me know so that I can, at the very least, provide her with a copy of the photo that was taken around 30 years ago. By my estimation, this young lady would be now in her forties. I'll put some key words into this post to attempt to maximise the chances of this post being seen by someone who may know this young lady. Big Gun, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Easter promotion, orchids, petrol station, promotion ... Let's see what happens...
