Schapelle - Week in Summary
Quite an active week last week on Schapelle's landscape - our PM has very close and productive meetings with Indonesian PM - closer ties, more co-operation and I am certain, some diplomacy aimed at getting Schapelle home.
Schapelle's trail resumes last week only to be postponed due to Schapelle's ill health. The trial is at the stage where the penalty to be imposed is determined and announced prior to the finding of guilt or innocence (hmmm.. interesting order of things...). Luggage and baggage handlers come into focus last week with a "Camel's Head" (part of a costume) from the luggage of a Qantas passenger is taken from luggage without passenger's knowledge or consent. Imagine the surprise of the passenger to see his "camel's head" being worn by a baggage handler on the tarmac driving a luggage buggy, when said head should have been firmly ensconced in its costume bag in the baggage hold. Also, article in the Herald Sun telling of an Emirates passenger who had a mobile stolen from his luggage in Dubai (between London and Melbourne) and came home to be greeted by a $2,000 telephone bill run up by the baggage thieves.
Alexander Downer starting to talk to Indonesia about clemency for Schapelle (may need to be a bit more insistent Alexander) - other Government Ministers showing that they have some awareness - The GREAT thing is the increasing level of awareness of Schapelle supporters here and overseas - people in Lancashire sending letters to Blair, Kids aged, 11, 9, 6 putting comments on blogs. Schapelle needs support - she is out there in a filthy stinking cell - all the messages and demonstrations of support I am certain assist her to maintain her spirit.
